Spicy Sweet Soya Sauce Condiment | Sambal Kicap

Sambal Kicap is a versatile dipping sauce that can be enjoyed with just about anything, from savoury dishes like Mee Soto, to sweet treats like Pisang Goreng (fried banana fritters).

Sambal Kicap Recipe




INGREDIENTS:
  • 20 red bird's eye chillies 
  • 2 cloves garlic sliced
  • 4 tbsp fried shallots 
  • 1-2 Calamansi limes
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • kicap manis (sweet soy sauce)
  • salt and sugar adjust to taste

DIRECTIONS:

1. Heat oil in a frying pan and fry chillies and garlic slices until lightly browned.

2. Then, add the fried chillies and garlic together with the frying oil in a dry blender. Add also fried shallots and blend all ingredients until fine. Pour into a serving bowl.

3. Add sweet soy sauce, adjust the amount of soy sauce according to your own desire.

4. Add salt, sugar and lime juice to taste. Mix well. Serve.
